Companionship and Support for Independent Living

Our Companionship and Support for Independent Living service is a brand new service, coming very soon.

As we get older, daily companionship becomes increasingly important. Loneliness can grow, and having a caring, reliable person to spend time with can make all the difference.

At Family Companions, our professional companions provide friendship, conversation, and practical support in your home. This includes light housekeeping, laundry, shopping, errands, medication reminders, mobility assistance, personal hygiene support, and meal preparation—everything you need to continue living independently and comfortably.

Our companions are experienced and professional, offering continuity of care and tailored support. We carefully match companions based on skills, experience, personality, and shared interests, fostering genuine friendships and meaningful connections.

Whether it’s going out for a coffee, visiting the supermarket, attending appointments, or maintaining daily routines, our companions help you stay active, engaged, and connected. With this support, you can enjoy your hobbies, interests, and social life while remaining happy and independent in your own home.

Quality companionship and practical support can improve your quality of life—helping you stay safe, active, and connected every day.

We understand that inviting a companion into your home is a deeply personal choice. That’s why we take great care in selecting the companions we work with. Their experience, personality, and caring skills are all vital to ensuring a positive and meaningful relationship.

Most of our companions have at least three years of experience, with many having much more. They give us absolute confidence in their ability to provide a warm, supportive, and caring environment. Each companion undergoes extensive checks and individual interviews to ensure they meet our high standards.

After our initial conversation with you, we carefully match you with a companion whose professional skills and personal qualities suit your needs. Our mission is to help you feel supported, connected, and happy in your own home.

As we all reach certain stages in life, maintaining our independence becomes more important than ever. Yet for many people, this can become increasingly difficult without the right support.

Most of our clients are elderly, but our services are available to all adults who may need a little extra help to continue living comfortably and safely at home.

We offer a wide range of care options, from 24-hour live-in support to specialised assistance for individuals living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, and other complex conditions. We can also provide support during post-operative recovery and periods of convalescence.

All of our companions are carefully selected, capable, and trusted individuals who understand how to adapt seamlessly to each client’s lifestyle and home environment. Whether you require short-term assistance or long-term ongoing care, our companions are there to provide support, comfort, and continuity.

Our Companion Values – The Six Cs

Everything our companions do is guided by the Six Cs. They shape the way we support people in their own homes — with kindness, respect, and a real sense of heart.

Compassion – Compassion is about being kind, patient and understanding. Our companions take time to listen, to notice the little things, and to offer comfort when it’s needed most. Everyone is treated as an individual, with warmth and dignity.

Care – Care means being there in the everyday moments. Whether it’s sharing a cup of tea, helping around the house, or heading out together, our companions offer gentle, thoughtful support that helps people feel safe, settled and at ease in their own home.

Competence – Our companions are reliable, capable and confident in what they do. They understand their role, know their boundaries, and carry out their work with care and common sense — giving families peace of mind.

Communication – Good communication builds trust. Our companions listen carefully, speak openly, and keep families informed when needed. It’s about honesty, reassurance, and making sure everyone feels comfortable and understood.

Courage – Courage means doing the right thing. Our companions aren’t afraid to speak up if something doesn’t feel right, to raise concerns, or to ask for help when it’s needed — always putting wellbeing first.

Commitment – Commitment is about being dependable and kind, day after day. Our companions build genuine relationships, show up when they say they will, and offer steady, caring support that families can rely on.
